Comets’ Goossens Gets 400th Career Goal, and Lazers Lose

Jan Goossens scored three goals, including the 400th of his career, to lead the Kansas City Comets to a 7-3 Major Indoor Soccer League victory over the Los Angeles Lazers Friday night.

Goossens’ 400th was his first of the night, at 13:50 of the first quarter, and gave the Comets a 3-1 lead.

After scoreless second and third periods, the Lazers’ Doug Neely scored his 28th goal of the season at 1:42 of the fourth quarter to make it 3-2.

Goossens’ second goal came on a power-play goal at 7:45 of the fourth quarter, and Gary Heale scored for the Lazers one minute later to make it 5-3.

Goossens followed with his third goal of the night at 11:10. Greg Ion added an empty-net goal to finish the scoring.

The Comets have won four of their last five games and are 11-17. The Lazers are 14-15.
