In other Division II boys’ second-round games:

Serra 62, Fallbrook 53--Jermaine Jordan had 18 points, Desi Dixon and Maurice Wade each added 14 for Serra (15-9). Keith Ladue had eight rebounds for Serra.

Point Loma 58, Carlsbad 48--Carlsbad made five three-pointers in the first quarter and took a 22-16 lead but could only manage 26 points the rest of the game at Point Loma. Beau Pack scored 22 points and J.J. Stokes had 14 points and 16 rebounds for Point Loma (15-10).

Helix 45, Grossmont 43--Helix led, 6-4, after the first quarter and then outscored Grossmont, 20-7, in the second quarter. Grossmont rallied to outscore Helix, 20-7, in the third quarter. Todd Jaeger missed a three-point shot with 2 seconds remaining that would have given Grossmont the victory. John Pressler had 17 points and Andy Merideth added 11 for the Highlanders (18-6). Jaeger scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half for Grossmont (6-18).

Division I second round

Valhalla 77, Orange Glen 69--Rafid Kiti, who missed six games with a collapsed lung, returned to with 29 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists at Valhalla. Tony Clark, the county’s top scorer, had 33 points, 11 rebounds and four assists for Valhalla (18-8). Shawn Macklin made 12 of 13 free throw attempts and scored 20 points for Orange Glen (8-17).

Monte Vista 64, Chula Vista 40--Monte Vista used a trapping defense to create 20 turnovers at Monte Vista. Chula Vista (13-15) led, 18-13, after the first quarter but Monte Vista went on an 18-3 run in the second as Chula Vista made just one of 10 shots. Six-foot-9 Joe McNaull had 18 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Monte Vista (18-4) and Jason Peters had 15 points.

Sweetwater 60, Mira Mesa 51--Sweetwater (25-2) recovered from a 24-6 first quarter deficit to defeat Mira Mesa (4-22). Carlos Campbell led Sweetwater with 22 points and Joe McDowell had 10 rebounds and five block shots.

Girls

Division I second round

Poway 54, Monte Vista 36--Poway used a pressure defense to get 19 steals and wear down Monte Vista at Poway. Christy Fortney and Dawn Gigstad each scored 10 for Poway (18-9). Poway led 26-23 at halftime, increased it to 36-28 after three quarters and outscored Monte Vista, 18-8, in the fourth quarter.

Bonita Vista 55, Orange Glen 51--Torril Purvis scored 17 points and Colleen Gannon made two free throws in the final seconds to secure the victory for Bonita Vista. Gannon had 13 points for Bonita Vista (21-5). Orange Glen (6-19) used a press to erase an eight-point deficit in the final 2 minutes. Amy Westerlund scored 12 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter for Orange Glen.

Division II second round

Torrey Pines 54, Rancho Buena Vista 49--Rancho Buena Vista (17-11) led, 27-22, at halftime but Torrey Pines (16-9) poured on the defense in the second half. Torrey Pines had a comfortable lead in the fourth quarter, but Rancho Buena Vista hit three three-pointers to close the gap. Karyn Armstrong scored 22 points and had six rebounds and Tiffany Booth added 12 points and five rebounds for Torrey Pines.

Oceanside 38, University City 20--Oceanside went on a 14-5 run in the second quarter to take a 22-14 halftime lead at Oceanside. Kecha Fowlkes led Oceanside (19-8) with 13 points, Tonya Lee had nine and Mildred Conston added five. Tamika Edwards and Amy Cleveland each scored nine points for University City, which led, 9-8, after the first quarter.

Mission Bay 58, Valhalla 31--Cristina Willis led Mission Bay (19-7) with 32 points. Mission Bay led at halftime, 27-19, over Valhalla (7-17)

Division IV

Mountain Empire 61, West Hills 26--Stacie Peckham had 20 points, Lisa Beldon 16 and Belinda Dyche 10 in first round play at Mountain Empire. Allison Peckham added two three-pointers to raise her season total to 43 for Mountain Empire (17-5). West Hills, which has played junior varsity and 1-A teams, was playing in its first playoff game.
