STATE BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : 5-A : Irvine Rolls Past Canyon Springs, 61-42

Bryan Allred had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Irvine High School to a 61-42 victory over Canyon Springs in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section 3-A boys’ basketball playoffs Wednesday night at Canyon Springs.
The Vaqueros (23-5) scored the first 10 points of the game and led, 15-3, at the end of the first quarter. Canyon Springs didn’t score for the first 3 1/2 minutes.
Allred scored five points and Raphael Molle four in the first quarter.
Molle finished with 13 points and his brother, John, scored 12. Both had eight rebounds, as Irvine had a season-high 47 rebounds.
Irvine led, 31-14, at halftime. The Cougars never got closer than 17 points in the second half.
Anthony Walsh scored 17 points for Canyon Springs (20-5).
