Pacific 10 Roundup : Stanford Has Enough to Get Past Oregon

Scott Meinert scored Stanford’s only three field goals in the last nine minutes Thursday night, and the No. 16-ranked Cardinal held on to beat Oregon, 54-50, in a Pacific 10 Conference game at Eugene, Ore.

Oregon (8-17 overall, 3-12 in the Pac-10) rallied from an eight-point deficit to make it 47-46 on Eric Dunn’s basket with 4:45 remaining. Meinert scored with 4:25 left and again with 2:00 to play, giving Stanford (22-5, 13-3) a 51-46 lead.

Todd Lichti scored 19 points, and Howard Wright added 12 for Stanford, which scored the first seven points and never trailed.

Randy Grant scored 17 points for Oregon; Keith Reynolds added 15.

Arizona 109, Arizona State 74--Sean Elliott scored 22 points as the second-ranked Wildcats routed the Sun Devils at Tucson to clinch at least a tie for the Pac-10 regular-season championship.

Jud Buechler added 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Anthony Cook had 18 points in the final home game for Arizona (21-3, 15-1), which tuned up for Sunday’s game against ninth-ranked Duke at East Rutherford, N.J.

Ken Lofton scored 13 points, including three three-pointers, for the Wildcats, who have won 33 consecutive home games.

Trent Edwards had 29 points and 13 rebounds for Arizona State (12-13, 5-11).

Oregon State 60 California 54--Eric Knox scored 24 points, and the Beavers downed the Golden Bears at Corvallis, Ore.

Gary Payton had 13 points, five assists and five steals for Oregon State (19-5, 11-4) and made three free throws in the final minute.

Roy Fisher had 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Leonard Taylor added 14 points and 11 rebounds for Cal (17-10, 8-7).
