COLLEGES : CCAA Honors Dominguez Hills’ Blackmon

Anthony Blackmon of Cal State Dominguez Hills was named most valuable player in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. by a vote of the conference’s basketball coaches.

Blackmon, a 6-foot-7 center, was the conference’s leading scorer, averaging 19.3 points. He was also the conference’s top rebounder, averaging 9.9 rebounds.

John Masi, who guided UC Riverside to the conference title, was named the coach of the year.

Russ Ortega of Chapman College was named to the first team. The Panthers’ Bryan Richetto was a second-team selection.

The first team:

Robert Barksdale (Dominguez Hills), Anthony Blackmon (Dominguez Hills), Chris Ceballos (Riverside), Coby Naess (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo), Russ Ortega (Chapman), Troy Price (Cal State Bakersfield) and Maurice Pullman (Riverside).

The second team:

Forrest Barnes (Cal Poly Pomona), Von Bennett (Bakersfield), Derrick Clark (Dominguez Hills), Derrick Gathers (Cal State Northridge) and Bryan Richetto (Chapman).
