NBA Roundup : Spurs End Losing Streak by Beating Nuggets, 106-89

Frank Brickowski scored 24 points as the San Antonio Spurs ended their club-record 13-game losing streak with a 106-89 victory over the Denver Nuggets Saturday night at San Antonio.

It was San Antonio’s first victory since Feb. 3, when the Spurs defeated the Clippers, 106-101.

Alex English scored 16 points for Denver, which was held to fewer than 90 points for the first time this season.

“As a team tonight we set new standards for ineptitude,” Denver Coach Doug Moe said. “That is my only comment about tonight’s game.”

New York 122, Chicago 104-- Rod Strickland had season highs of 20 points and 14 assists, and Johnny Newman had 28 points as the Knicks won at New York for their 23rd consecutive home victory.

Strickland, a rookie guard, made the first pro start because Mark Jackson went on the injury list with torn cartilage in his right knee.

Michael Jordan led the Bulls with 28 points.

New Jersey 98, Boston 95--Rookie Chris Morris scored 20 points, including three free throws in the final minute, as the Nets defeated the Celtics at East Rutherford, N.J.

Boston, which had its three-game winning streak stopped, trailed through most of the fourth quarter before rallying in the closing minutes behind Reggie Lewis and Dennis Johnson.

The Celtics tied the score, 95-95, with 1:54 left when Johnson made two free throws. With 59 seconds remaining, Morris put the Nets ahead for good by making two free throws.

Washington 119, Dallas 105--Jeff Malone scored 28 points at Landover, Md., as the Bullets got their third consecutive victory.

Adrian Dantley, in his sixth game with Dallas since being traded from Detroit, scored 29 points.

Seattle 118, Philadelphia 104--Xavier McDaniel scored 25 points and Russ Schoene had a season-high 20 as the SuperSonics won at Seattle.

Seattle (35-21) is 14 games over .500 for the first time since the 1982-83 season.

Philadelphia completed an eight-game West Coast trip with a 3-5 record.

“These road trips are brutal. Thank God it’s over,” said Charles Barkley, who had 18 points and nine rebounds.

Golden State 155, Sacramento 143--Mitch Richmond scored a season-high 47 points for the Warriors at Oakland.

The Warriors scored 57 points in the third quarter to set a National Basketball Assn. record for most points in the third period.

Danny Ainge led Sacramento with 45 points.
