Injury Will Sideline Lions’ Simmons
Guard Enoch Simmons of Loyola Marymount will miss the NCAA basketball tournament after breaking a finger on his left hand, the school announced Wednesday night.
Simmons averaged 18.7 points and 5.6 assists while starting all 30 games for the Lions. He was injured in Monday night’s 75-70 overtime victory over Santa Clara in the West Coast Athletic Conference tournament title game.
A senior and the team’s captain, Simmons broke a small portion of a bone in the first knuckle of his left middle finger. He was scheduled to undergo surgery today at Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood.
Simmons, a baseball player in the Oakland Athletics’ organization, will have two pins placed in the finger and should recover in six weeks. He will then report to the A’s.
