Prep Roundup : Freshman Lee Pitches No-Hitter in First Start for Laguna Hills

Freshman Torin Lee, making her first start in high school, pitched a no-hitter to lead Laguna Hills to a 1-0 victory over Irvine Thursday in a nonleague softball game at Irvine.

Lee had 10 strikeouts, but hit a batter and had another reach on a error.

Catcher Shelly Carey hit a home run in the sixth for Laguna Hills (2-0). Irvine is 1-1.

In other nonleague games:

El Dorado 12, Troy 0--Jennifer Dinicola had three hits, including a double and a triple, scored three runs, and had three RBIs for host El Dorado (2-0). Melissa Jantz had three hits, scored two runs and drove in two runs for El Dorado, which had 14 hits. Keri Lucas threw a one-hitter for El Dorado.

Newport Harbor 10, Rancho Alamitos 5--Karen Goemer had two hits, including a bases-loaded triple, to lead Newport Harbor (1-1) at home. Newport Harbor scored six runs in the second inning. Robin Russell pitched a complete game.

Capistrano Valley 11, Estancia 3--Allyson Carpenter had two hits in the first inning, including a three-run double, for host Capistrano Valley, which led, 9-0, after an inning. Maria Rodriguez had two hits including a two-run home run for Capistrano Valley (3-0). Jennifer Smith (3-0) pitched a complete game.

In the Corona tournament:

El Toro 6, Palm Springs 0--Jennifer Jourden pitched a two-hitter and struck out six at Butterfield Park in Corona. She hit a home run in the first inning. Corrie Yauney had three hits for El Toro (3-2), which plays Corona tonight in the semifinals.

In nonleague tennis:

Cypress 9, Pacifica 9, (Cypress wins on games, 83-78)--No. 1 doubles team of Mike Finck and Son Pham won 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, to lead Cypress (2-1). In nonleague golf:

Corona del Mar 198, Sunny Hills 206--Jeff Tatch and Steve Bemis each shot three-over par 38 to lead host Corona del Mar. Joon Lee shot of Sunny Hills shot a two-over 35 for nine holes for the low score of the day.

Servite 209, Garden Grove 234--Jason VanDersteen and David Quinn each shot five-over par 40 to lead host Servite in the nine-hole match at Hacienta Country Club.

In nonleague boys’ track:

Villa Park 112, Costa Mesa 18--Mark Sleenoff won the mile in 4 minutes 40.1 seconds and the two-mile (10.22) for host Villa Park.

Valencia 71 1/2, Katella 64 1/2, Troy 34--Eric Whitcomb, Kevin Thomas and Jaime Lugo were all double winners to lead the Tigers. Whitcomb vaulted 14 feet and also won the 440. Thomas took the 100 in 10.08 seconds and won the long jump, and Lugo took firsts in the 880 and the mile.
