Prep Roundup : Mater Dei’s Goodwin Pitches No-Hitter

Amy Goodwin pitched a no-hitter but walked five as Mater Dei High School defeated Huntington Beach, 3-1, in a nonleague softball game Tuesday at Huntington Beach.

Theresa Conway had an RBI single in the fourth for Mater Dei. Sundy Mosqueda had an RBI single in the sixth and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Jennifer Cline for Mater Dei (3-1). Goodwin is 1-0.

In other nonleague softball games:

Woodbridge 2, Upland 1--Kim Dean had a two-run single in the fourth to lead host Woodbridge (3-1). Lisa Wehren pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts for Woodbridge.

El Dorado 3, Brea-Olinda 2--Keri Lucas hit a triple to score Stacey Angleton, who had singled with one out in the seventh for host El Dorado (3-0). Lucas (3-0) also pitched a complete game.

Rosary 14, Whittier Christian 1--Rosary scored 10 runs in the second at Whittier Christian. Kristina Luna had three hits, including a three-run homer in the second, for Rosary (1-2). She also had five RBIs. Jen Schilling and Suzi Canney had three hits each.

La Habra 2, Esperanza 0--Sara Mallett had two hits and scored a run to lead La Habra at home. Laura Corson limited Esperanza (3-5) to three hits, including a triple by Amy Dion.

In nonleague tennis:

Orange 10, El Modena 8--The doubles team of Mike Gibbons and Angelo DeLeon won two of three sets, including a 7-6 tiebreaker that clinched the victory for Orange (2-2) at El Modena.

Saddleback 16, Costa Mesa 2--Sung Chi swept No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, for host Saddleback (3-2).

Mission Viejo 14, Foothill 4--Rodrigo Zulian won three sets at No. 1 singles for host Mission Viejo.

Corona del Mar 16, Rolling Hills 2--Corona del Mar, (4-2) led by the No. 1 team of Rich Han and Doug Schurlein, swept Rolling Hills in doubles.

In nonleague golf:

Estancia 196, Millikan 209--Ken Calvert shot a one-over-par 37 to lead Estancia (5-0) at Mesa Verde Country Club.

Brea-Olinda 200, Esperanza 206--Kevin Clayborn and Craig Botch each shot one-over 36 to lead the Wildcats at Yorba Linda golf course.

Esperanza 206, Canyon 206--Pete Gimino shot two-over 38 to lead Esperanza at Yorba Linda.
