One thing the Chicago Bulls can feel good about after losing to Detroit Thursday night is the fact that they won’t be matched against the Pistons in the first round of the National Basketball Assn. playoffs.

The Pistons continued their mastery of the Bulls, winning at home, 115-108. Joe Dumars scored 20 points, and Bill Laimbeer had 22 rebounds to lead Detroit past Chicago for the eighth straight time.

Chicago, 0-5 against the Pistons this season, has not beaten Detroit since last year’s playoffs. “They’re the best defensive team in the NBA,” Bull Coach Doug Collins said. “They got up on us and forced us to shoot. They gave us no second shots and got second shots of their own.”

The Pistons overcame Michael Jordan’s seventh straight triple-double--31 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists--to win their 15th straight at home and 18th in their last 20 games.

The victory improved Detroit’s record to 54-18, matching the club record for victories in a season and moving the Pistons 1 1/2 games ahead of Cleveland for the best record in the NBA.

Golden State 132, Boston 118--Chris Mullin scored 41 points, and Terry Teagle had 19 in Golden State’s 48-point fourth quarter as the Warriors beat the Celtics at Oakland.

Robert Parish led the Celtics with 31 points and 16 rebounds. Kevin McHale added 26 points.

New York 112, Milwaukee 99--Patrick Ewing scored 12 of his 21 points in a third-quarter spurt as the Knicks won at Milwaukee.

The Knicks outscored the Bucks, 27-20, in the third quarter to take a 79-69 lead into the final period. Milwaukee, losing for only the eighth time in 37 home games, made only seven field goals in 24 attempts in the third period.
