Prep Roundup : Mell Leads Fountain Valley in Tennis

Mike Mell swept his singles sets to lead Fountain Valley High School to an 11-7 victory over Huntington Beach Thursday in a Sunset League boys’ tennis match at Huntington Beach.

Mell won, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3, for Fountain Valley.

In the Century League:

Canyon 14, Santa Ana Valley 4--Brad Mills swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, for host Canyon (4-6, 2-0).

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 16, Sonora 2--Glenn Henderson swept his singles sets for host Sunny Hills (10-1, 3-0).

In the Garden Grove League:

Bolsa Grande 13, Pacific 5--Phong Nguyen swept in singles for host Bolsa Grande (9-3, 5-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 16, Orange 2--Lee Kirner won his three sets for host Laguna Beach (10-2, 2-0).

In Empire League golf:

El Dorado 206, Loara 236, Western 251--David Lang and Jeff Anderson each shot three-over 39 for El Dorado (6-1, 3-1) at the Alta Vista Country Club.

In the Orange League:

Valencia 192, Magnolia 223--Chris Tidland shot a three-under 33 for Valencia (8-0, 3-0) at Dad Miller golf course.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Trabuco Hills 205, Laguna Beach 261--Spencer Kapp shot par 36 for Trabuco Hills (8-4, 1-1) at Coto de Caza.

In the South Coast League:

El Toro 386, Dana Hills 392--Greg Reynolds shot a two-over 74 for El Toro (12-0, 4-0) at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.

Irvine 208, Mission Viejo 209--Scott Auerbach shot a one-over 37 for Irvine (5-3, 4-2) at the Rancho San Joaquin golf course.

In the Sunset League:

Marina 365, Ocean View 402 (18 holes)--Dan Dalton and Blake Alban both shot one-under 69 for Marina (11-2, 2-0) at the Meadlowlark golf course.

In nonleague play:

El Modena 215, Orange Lutheran 237--Eric Casey shot a three-over 39 for El Modena (8-1) at the Anaheim Hills golf course.
