A North Hollywood woman was arrested Saturday on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with a fatal car accident in Sherman Oaks, police said.

Cheryl Lynn Ewell, 29, was arrested after witnesses said her car slammed into another vehicle about 2 a.m. at Woodman Avenue and Addison Street, said Los Angeles Police Officer Dennis Smith.

The driver of the other car, a 49-year-old Sherman Oaks woman, died at the scene, he said. Police declined to identify her pending notification of her relatives.

Smith said a Sherman Oaks man saw Ewell’s car hit the woman’s car and speed away. The man followed Ewell, whose car slammed into a curb shortly afterward, Smith said. She got out of her car and ran into the bushes. The man persuaded Ewell to return to the intersection, where she was arrested, Smith said.

Ewell was being held Saturday at the Van Nuys station in lieu of $2,500 bail, Smith said. He said felony drunk-driving and hit-and-run charges will be filed against her. He declined to release the results of a blood-alcohol test.
