College Roundup : CSUN Sweeps Doubleheader in Softball
Leilani Artis’ infield single in the sixth inning scored Jennifer Miller from third base, lifting Cal State Northridge to a 1-0 victory and a sweep of a nonconference softball doubleheader Wednesday over United States International University in San Diego.
Northridge (46-14) won the first game, 3-2, as Debbie Dickmann (25-5) pitched a six-hitter.
In the second game, freshman Heather Lindstrom (16-4) pitched a one-hitter to post her 10th shutout. She had three strikeouts and walked none.
Erin McGwire’s single in the seventh scored Anna Getherall from third base with the game-winner in the opener.
In another softball game:
Moorpark 7, Pierce 0--Audra Olive tripled, doubled and scored two runs and De Dow (20-7) pitched a four-hit shutout as Moorpark extended its Western State Conference home win streak to 40 games.
Olive tripled in the fifth and scored a run to key the Lady Raiders’ five-run inning. Jamie McDaniel also tripled for Moorpark (27-10, 9-1 in WSC play), which collected 15 hits.
BASEBALL
Master’s 13, Southern Cal. College 7--Jeff Preston went four for five with three doubles and three runs scored and teammate Peter Wilson was three for four with two doubles as Master’s (14-25-1) won a nonconference game at home.
Dan Bevins hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning and John March (1-5) pitched six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks for Master’s.
