And the most important numbers of all: Newbury Park and Simi Valley, with 6-1 records, share the league lead with second-round play under way.

Offense: Chatsworth third baseman Rich Aude, who was seven for 17 and hit a three-run home run, was named the most valuable player of the Holt-Goodman tournament. . . . Birmingham’s Diego Arcos was four for eight in the tournament.

San Fernando leadoff batter Jess Romero is 25 for 57 (.439) with 11 walks. No. 2 batter Richard Ortiz is 23 for 49 (.469) with 10 walks, and No. 3 batter Bobby Corrales is 27 for 58 (.466). Romero has struck out five times, Ortiz four and Corrales twice. Corrales also has made the most of his teammates’ on-base percentages--he has 24 runs batted in, high among North Valley League players.

Poly senior outfielder Eddie Chavez has been the biggest power source for the Parrots since Danny Gil, the City Section MVP in 1987. Chavez is 19 for 57 (.404) with six home runs and 23 RBIs. Chavez also is 1-1 with a save as a pitcher.

Highland Hall will try for its 20th consecutive Westside League victory Friday against Newbridge.
