Boyd Named Chapman Interim Athletic Director

Chapman College basketball Coach Bob Boyd has been named interim athletic director, college officials announced Monday.

Boyd replaces Walt Bowman, who resigned in March. Boyd was hired in February as basketball coach.

In 1979, Boyd served as an associate athletic director at USC after resigning as the Trojans’ basketball coach.

Pam Ezell, Chapman’s public information director, said the school hopes to hire an athletic director before the fall semester.

Cal State Fullerton had three baseball players named to the All-Big West Conference first team and UC Irvine had two players on the second team.

Catcher Brent Mayne, first baseman Rex Peters and designated hitter Dave Staton of Fullerton were named to the first team. Second baseman Chris Gallego and shortstop Al Rodriguez of Irvine were named to the second team.

Pitcher Huck Flener of Fullerton was an honorable-mention selection.

Outfielder Tom Goodwin of Fresno State was named the player of the year. Dave Snow of Cal State Long Beach was named coach of the year.

Pat Bagatourian, a 6-foot-3 forward from Orange Lutheran High School, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Chapman College in the fall.

Bagatourian helped lead Orange Lutheran to the Olympic League championship and a second-place finish in the Southern Section 2-A division. He averaged 20.3 points and 10.6 rebounds and shot 62% from the field.
