Fountain Valley : Man Is Shot During Alleged Knife Attack
A knife-wielding Fountain Valley man was shot at his home by police Tuesday when he continued to stab his wife in the neck after being ordered to stop, authorities said.
Jacek Krol, 37, was in critical condition at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach with a bullet wound in the head.
His wife, Goska Krol, 31, was treated at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center for stab wounds on her arms, abdomen, neck and back and was released.
The couple’s 9-year-old daughter was asleep upstairs during the attack, said Fountain Valley Police Sgt. Norm Satterfield.
Police received a frantic call from Goska Krol about 1:45 a.m. reporting that her husband was assaulting her with a knife, Satterfield said.
Officers who arrived at the house in the 15000 block of Hyde Court heard a woman screaming inside and kicked the door open.
Inside, Jacek Krol was dragging his wife toward a back patio, they said.
Officers opened fire when Krol refused to release the victim and continued to stab her with a kitchen knife, Satterfield said.
Jacek Krol was scheduled to be transferred to United Western Medical Center-Anaheim and held on suspicion of attempted murder, Satterfield said.
Authorities have not determined what prompted the attack.
Fountain Valley police had been called to the home April 23 to break up another family dispute, Sgt. Larry Griswold said.
