A small plane with its nose wheel stuck in the retracted position skidded to a landing Tuesday at Hawthorne Airport, but the two people aboard were unharmed.

“The propeller got banged and it scrapped a little under the nose,” said pilot Richard G. Harris of Fullerton, who was flying with his wife, Julia Schappals.

Harris said he knew the front wheel under the nose of his Cessna 182 would not come down, so he landed the plane on just the two main wheels.

“We slid 100 feet to an uneventful stop and got out and walked away,” Harris said.
