Area Roundup : Cypress Plays Host to Softball Tournament

The girls’ 16-and-under fast pitch state softball championships begin at noon today at Cypress Arnold Park.
Twenty-one of Southern California’s top travel teams will compete for the chance to represent Southern California at the national tournament Aug. 10-14 in Midland, Tex.
The junior Batbusters of Westminster, the defending national champion, and the runner-up Panthers of Cypress already have qualified for the national tournament. They are not entered in the double-elimination tournament, but defending state tournament champion Hot Stuff will compete, as will Rod Carew’s Quicksilver team.
Admission is free. Games begin today and continue Saturday and Sunday at 9 a.m. with the championship game at 1 p.m. Sunday.
