A fire believed to have been started by shooters in the Cleveland National Forest in Riverside County was still out of control Monday night and had charred about 5,840 acres, including a 2-mile strip in northwest San Diego County, fire officials said.

The blaze was about 40% contained and was burning east and west parallel to California 79, said Audrey Hagen, U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman.

A house, mobile home and trailer in Riverside County had been lost to the flames, authorities said. Three firefighters suffered minor injuries, Hagen said.
