THE SIDELINES : High Jumper to Refuse Prize Money

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico —
Cuban high jumper Javier Sotomayor, who established a world record of eight feet, says he will refuse any prize money offered to him in future competition.
“I will accept any invitation to compete internationally but I will donate any prize money to Cuban sports,” Sotomayor said in an interview published Wednesday in the San Juan daily El Nuevo Dia.
