Conejo Legion Team Wins on Wild Pitch

Brent Christenson scored the winning run on a wild pitch to lead Conejo to a 5-4 victory over Reseda on Saturday in the first round of the Conejo Classic American Legion tournament at Thousand Oaks High.

Christenson scored from third on Tony Holiday’s wild pitch in the sixth inning. Christenson led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third before scoring.

Jason Goldstein had two hits, including a double, and two runs batted in to lead Conejo (9-10). Mike Lee (2-3) gave up two hits and one run in six innings to pick up the win.

Newhall-Saugus rallied for six runs in the fifth inning en route to a 12-4 victory over the Ventura County Stars in the other first-round game. Kevin Backes hit a three-run home run and Brad Anderson added a two-run homer to lead the six-run rally.

Glenn Terry doubled and added a three-run home run in the ninth for insurance.

The double-elimination tournament will conclude next weekend.
