The California Horse Racing Board has assessed four suspensions after an investigation into the 10th race July 28 at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Jockey Richard Gamez and trainer Stanford Johnson, who was not licensed to train in California, were suspended for five years. Gamez allegedly used an electrical device to spur Mysterious Wizard to victory in the 10th race. Johnson was accused of taking the device from Gamez in the winner’s circle and then leaving the track by climbing over a fence. The alleged device was not recovered.

Fred Snapp, listed as the trainer of Mysterious Wizard in the official program, and owner Scott Russo were given one-year suspensions by track stewards for charges that included conduct detrimental to horse racing. Mysterious Wizard was disqualified by the board.
