Sheriff’s deputies are looking for the driver of a light-colored pickup truck that struck and killed a young Poway man and critically injured another early Friday before leaving the scene.
Jose Reyes, 19, of High Valley Road, was playing basketball with Santos Ortiz Garcia, 26, about 12:10 a.m. on Espola Road when they were struck by the truck, which had large tires and a pipe or bar-type front bumper, a Sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
Reyes died at the scene, about 200 feet south of Lake Poway Road, and Garcia was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he was in critical condition late Friday.
The spokeswoman said anyone with information regarding the accident can contact the Sheriff’s Poway substation at 748-7400.
