Little League World Series : Brucker Singles as San Pedro Advances to Semifinals, 12-5

Victoria Brucker became the first girl to get a hit in the 50-year history of the Little League World Series Wednesday as her Eastview team of San Pedro had 14 hits in a 12-5 victory over Tampa, Fla.

First baseman Brucker, the team’s cleanup hitter, singled to left field to open the sixth inning, walked twice and scored three runs. She is the second girl to play in the series, the first American.

Gary Sloan, Chris Hevener and Steve Williams hit home runs for Eastview (17-1), which had an 8-2 lead after 2 1/2 innings. Pitcher Tim Harper (6-0) was the winner.

San Pedro will play Trumbull, Conn., in the second-round today. Trumbull defeated Davenport, Iowa, 4-3, Tuesday. Today’s winner will play for the title Saturday.
