College Roundup : Moorpark Wins Women’s Meet in Cross-Country

Moorpark College placed four runners in the top 10 to win the women’s division of the Moorpark Cross-Country Invitational on Friday.

Paced by Thousand Oaks graduates Pam Fuller and Tricia Mathiesen, the Lady Raiders scored 49 points, followed by San Diego Mesa (68) and Pasadena (92).

In the men’s meet, Arel DeLuna (second) and Natividad Gaona (third) led Pasadena to victory with 32 points. Grossmont finished second with 64, followed by Glendale (70) and Moorpark (148).

Fuller ran 21 minutes, 15 seconds over the 5,000-meter course to place fourth and teammate Mathiesen clocked 21:28 to place sixth. Christy Stubbs and Alex Guidi, freshmen from El Camino Real, placed ninth (21:52) and 10th (21:56) for Moorpark.

Lori Montoya of Ventura won the women’s race in 20:41, and teammate Jaime Galindo won the men’s four-mile race in 21:00.

Sal Garcia and James Moore placed sixth (21:36) and seventh (21:38) for Glendale.

Azusa Pacific 1, Occidental 0--The host Cougars scored on a penalty kick in the second half of the first-round game in the Azusa Pacific tournament.

Tiger goalie Lewis Tierney made eight saves in Occidental’s opener. The Tigers, who had 14 shots on goal, will play Loyola Marymount today for third place in the four-team tournament.
