Digest : Arreola Sent to Elite Camp for Runners

Darcy Arreola of Cal State Northridge will attend a training camp for elite distance runners in Colorado Springs, Colo., from today through Sunday.

Arreola, the school record-holder in the 1,500 meters (4 minutes, 14.15 seconds), will undergo a series of physical tests and measurements at the camp, which is sponsored by the United States Olympic Committee.

After redshirting last cross-country season, Arreola is scheduled to start this season in the Riverside Invitational on Oct. 30.

Former Poly High standout Craig Ellis moved into the Canadian Football League receiving lead by catching 10 passes Sunday in the Edmonton Eskimos’ 48-35 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Ellis’ 10 receptions are a single-game high for the CFL this season, and his 222 receiving yards marked the fourth-best single-game total in the Eskimos’ 79-year history.

Ellis has caught 60 passes in 11 games, three ahead of runner-up Tony Champion of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

A Senior Olympics gymnastics competition will be held at the Valley College gymnastics center at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The competition is open to everyone 20 or older. Participants will be grouped in five-year increments.

Admission is free and warm-ups begin at 11 a.m.
