Two minor earthquakes rattled Southern California but caused no damage or injuries, officials said. The first quake, with a magnitude of 2.9, hit at 12:19 p.m. about seven miles west of Rialto in San Bernardino County, said Hall Daily, spokesman at Caltech in Pasadena. The second quake came at 2:03 p.m., measured 2.4 and was centered three miles north of the Los Angeles Civic Center. That one was felt by residents of Silver Lake, Atwater, the Wilshire District and nearby neighborhoods, police said. Daily said the two quakes were not related. A quake with a magnitude of 2 is the smallest normally felt by humans. A 3.5-magnitude quake can cause slight damage in populated areas.
