Big Field Expected for Bell-Jeff Invitational
As many as 108 schools are scheduled to compete in the 16th Bell-Jeff High cross-country invitational today at Griffith Park. The meet starts at 7:45 a.m.
Among those running in the boys’ large-schools race are L. A. Belmont, winner of seven consecutive City Section titles; Southern Section 3-A Division powers Hart (ranked No. 1), Rosemead (No. 3), Loyola (No. 4); and Hoover, ranked fifth in the 4-A. Also competing are Thousand Oaks and L. A. Wilson, runner-up in the City championships last year.
In the girls’ competition, Quartz Hill, fourth in the 4-A championships a year ago, and Hart, fifth in the 1988 3-A final, will contend with Hesperia (ranked No. 1 in the 3-A) and Buena, winner of the past six Channel League championships.
In the medium-schools boys’ race, Burbank, Burroughs and Crespi will challenge two-time state Division II champion Walnut.
