McFarland Faces Lengthy Suspension

San Fernando High tailback Maurice McFarland did not play in Friday’s 28-0 loss at St. Paul because of disciplinary reasons and faces suspension for the season pending a meeting with administrators on Monday, Tiger Coach Tom Hernandez said.
“I don’t know if he’ll be on the team,” Hernandez said. “It was the school’s decision (to suspend him Friday). I’ll have more information Monday.”
Hernandez said that the benching came after an incident at the Crenshaw-Kennedy game Thursday night in which several San Fernando players were ejected from the Kennedy High stadium after a verbal exchange with Granada Hills football players.
McFarland, who led the Tigers in rushing last year with 670 yards, has missed two of San Fernando’s first three games because of disciplinary reasons. The senior was benched for the opening game at Fontana because he missed practice.
