Valley Christian 26, Orange Lutheran 6--Orange Lutheran was held scoreless until 28 seconds remained.

With time running out, Orange Lutheran quarterback Lenny Gavin threw a pass intended for junior wide receiver Phil Matheson. Valley Christian defensive back Todd Harrison tipped the ball, but Matheson came away with it en route to a 62-yard touchdown.

It was the first touchdown Valley Christian has yielded in three weeks, said Coach Mike Wunderly.

Valley Christian opened the scoring at the start of the second quarter on a one-yard run by Mark Kortenhoeven. The senior running back carried the ball 20 times for 130 yards.

Quarterback Chris Miller ran five yards for the second touchdown with 46 seconds left in the third quarter.

Miller then connected with senior Sam Sybesma on a nine-yard touchdown pass with 8:55 left in the game.

The loss dropped Orange Lutheran’s record to 2-3 overall, 0-2 in the Olympic League. Valley Christian is now 5-0.

Estancia 21, Orange 0--Estancia High School’s defense posted its fourth shutout in five games at Fred Kelly Stadium.

Estancia tailback Josh Wojtkiewicz gained 143 yards in 25 carries, and scored on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Estancia took a 7-0 lead in the third quarter. Quarterback Danny Ucker passed to Mike Aulet for 31 yards, and three plays later, Ucker scored on a seven-yard keeper with 4:25 left in the third quarter.

Gary Burrows ran for a 28-yard score on the next series.

Estancia (5-0) has allowed only one touchdown this season, that coming in the second game of the season against Laguna Hills.

The Estancia defense was led by interceptions by Ty Hilbert and Oliver Wright, and sacks by Jeremie Chapin and Kevin Thomas.

Orange, which had posted two shutouts of its own before Saturday night, fell to 3-1-1 with the loss.
