BUENA PARK — Brian Pazula scored two touchdowns and gained 74 yards in eight carries to lead Sunny Hills High School over Troy, 28-7, in the Freeway League opener for both teams Friday at Buena Park High School.
Despite Pazula’s efforts, both coaches said that Dominic Carnesi’s 75-yard punt-return for a touchdown for Sunny Hills’ second score was the key play.
“That punt return really hurt us,” Troy Coach John Turek said. “Sunny Hills is a very talented team that can hurt you with a lot of weapons.”
Sunny Hills Coach Tim Devaney said Carnesi’s punt return “broke things open for us.”
Pazula scored early on a nine-yard run up the middle to cap a four-play, 62-yard drive that made the score 7-0.
His second score, a 35-yard run down the right sideline, ended a four-play, 45-yard drive with 4:14 left in the first half. That gave Sunny Hills (6-0, 1-0) a 21-0 lead.
Troy is 3-3, 0-1 in league play.
