Turnovers Help Dana Hills Edge San Clemente, 9-6
DANA POINT — Dana Hills High School took advantage of four San Clemente turnovers and a bad snap on a punt to post a 9-6 victory Friday in front of 2,500 in a South Coast League football game at Dana Hills.
Dana Hills (6-2 overall and 1-2 in league) went 24 yards in six plays to score in the second quarter after recovering a San Clemente fumble.
Matt Carvalho, who had 148 yards in 28 carries, scored from two yards out. Ryan Harrison kicked the extra point to give the Dolphins a 7-0 lead.
San Clemente (3-5, 0-3) outgained Dana Hills in total offense, 189-156. But the Tritons turned the ball over on fumbles twice in the first half, once at their 35 and another time at the Dana Hills 13. San Clemente quarterback Ken Dolan also was intercepted once in the first half and again in the second half.
Dana Hills scored a safety to take a 9-0 lead with 7:41 left in the game when San Clemente punter Brian Holts failed to field a low snap in his end zone and was tackled by the Dolphins’ John Kochendorfer.
San Clemente drove 62 yards in seven plays, scoring a touchdown when Tom Belloni caught a 15-yard pass from Dolan with 1:33 left.
