Despite a school record rushing performance by Dana Riddle, who had 344 yards, Rancho Alamitos High School lost its homecoming game to Pacifica, 41-14, in front of 3,500 Friday night at Bolsa Grande.

Riddle had the ball on 52 of the Vaqueros’ 72 plays and he made the most of his possessions, breaking away on runs of 21, 27, 33 and 45 yards and touchdown runs of one and three yards.

His performance moved him ahead of Derrick Brown of Servite (338 yards) into third place among the county’s single-game rushing leaders. He trails Jim Gleed of Dana Hills (418 yards in 1979) and Mike Miscione of Esperanza (348 yards in 1986).

But turnovers and Pacifica’s versatility proved too much for Rancho Alamitos (4-5, 3-3). Quarterback Bobby Anderson used five receivers, completing 10 of 15 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns for Pacifica. He had one interception.

Mark Flatten (6 catches, 156 yards) caught a 56-yard touchdown reception and Chris Maroney caught a 19-yard touchdown pass.

Pacifica’s Chris Shockley carried 24 times for 109 yards and a touchdown.

With Pacifica leading, 21-14, Ryan Bremer intercepted Dan Olivo’s pass at Pacifica’s 17,setting up a third-quarter touchdown that started the rout. Two more Rancho drives deep in Pacifica territory ended with turnovers that quickly became Pacifica touchdowns.

Derrick Nicholson Olivo’s fourth-quarter fumble at Pacifica’s 10 and returned it 90 yards for a touchdown. He intercepted Olivo at the 17 and ran 83 yards for a touchdown.
