From Times Staff and wire service reports

Freshman running back Darrin Wagner has been suspended from the San Diego State Aztecs football team for the rest of the season, coach Al Luginbill announced. Wagner, the team’s leading rusher who ranked seventh nationally in all-purpose running with a 162.7-yard average per game, was dismissed because of unexcused absences from practice last week, Luginbill said.

“I would think that it is highly unlikely that Darrin Wagner will play for this program again,” the coach said.

He was suspended for one game, which the Aztecs won 30-26 against Long Beach State on Oct. 14, because of unexcused absences but was reinstated after that incident when his teammates voted unanimously in his favor.
