PREP ROUNDUP : Phebus Wins Sea View Tennis Title

Corona del Mar sophomore Keri Phebus defeated Dina Birch of Estancia, 6-0, 6-2, Wednesday in the Sea View League girls’ tennis final at the Racquet Club of Irvine.

Phebus, the Southern Section 4-A defending singles champion, lost only eight games all season and has a 27-0 overall record.

In the Sea View League doubles final, Kristen Pollock and Jackie O’Leary of Corona del Mar defeated Liz Collins and Molly Romm of Estancia, 6-7 (7-2), 6-4, 7-5.

In the Garden Grove League doubles final, La Quinta’s Liz Gonzalez and Christine Quan defeated Pacifica’s Mary Heinlein and Grace Fu , 3-6, 7-6, 7-5. It was the first loss of the season for Heinlein and Fu (36-1).

In the first round of the Southern Section 4-A girls’ volleyball playoffs:

Edison 3, Warren 0--Debbi Howard and Coby Hoffman each had eight kills to lead visiting Edison (12-5) to a 15-5, 15-11, 15-1 victory.

Fountain Valley 3, Long Beach Wilson 0--Kim Harty had 10 kills to lead host Fountain Valley, (15-2), 15-4, 15-7, 15-6.

In the first round of 3-A girls’ volleyball playoffs:

Kennedy 3, Fullerton 1--Michelle Harris had eight kills to lead host Kennedy (15-2) to a 14-16, 15-8, 15-5, 15-12 victory over Fullerton (9-8).

Sunny Hills 3, Santiago 0--Kim Hale had 20 kills to lead visiting Sunny Hills (12-4), 15-4, 15-7, 15-10.

In the first round of 1-A girls’ volleyball:

Santa Margarita 3, Pius X 0--Gina Rodarte and Adine Pawloski each had nine kills to lead host Santa Margarita (17-2), 15-5, 15-7, 15-5. Maya Leedom had four blocks for Santa Margarita.

In the first round of the Southern Section 3-A water polo playoffs:

Capistrano Valley 16, Downey 3--Kevin Eggert had five goals at Saddleback College to lead second-seeded Capistrano Valley (23-1). Chris Bowman (cq) had nine saves for Capistrano Valley.
