Sam Mack, a junior forward, was suspended indefinitely from the Arizona State basketball team while campus police investigate his possible involvement in an alleged sexual assault on the campus.

Mack is redshirting this season after transferring from Iowa State, where he was expelled last spring after his arrest in the holdup of a fast-food restaurant in Ames, Iowa.

Campus police said the alleged assault of an 18-year-old female student occurred late Sunday night at a residence hall room being rented by two Sun Devil basketball players.

No charges have been filed, nor have arrests been made in the case, according to authorities.

Bill Frieder, Arizona State’s new basketball coach, said at a news conference that he is not passing judgment but has decided to suspend Mack indefinitely “to get his situation straightened out.”
