Ineligible Player Won’t Affect Oilers’ Varsity

Administrators at Huntington Beach High School discovered an ineligible player while compiling a routine eligibility roster list for the upcoming Southern Section football playoffs, but the school will not have to forfeit any varsity games.

“The player in question never played a down in a varsity game,” Oiler Coach George Pascoe said.

Pascoe said the player participated in several junior varsity games, and the school will forfeit any games in which he played.

Last spring the ineligible player attended Wintersburg High, the Huntington Beach Union High School District’s continuation school, and he did not complete the necessary 20 semester units to be eligible.

Huntington Beach (8-2, 4-1) shares the Sunset League title with Edison and Ocean View and won the league’s No. 1 berth in the Division I playoffs on a coin flip.
