UC Davis Aggies Will Play at Home in NCAA Playoffs
In less than 24 hours, Bob Foster got everything he wished for in his first season as University of California, Davis, head football coach: a conference title and an NCAA Division II playoff berth against Angelo State on Saturday.
Foster learned Sunday that the Aggies will be playing the San Angelo, Tex., team at Toomey Field in Davis. The No. 16-ranked Aggies figured they might have to travel for the first-round game and the home site was unexpected.
“I’m elated we get a chance to play again,” Foster said. “I’m really happy for our seniors. It prolongs their careers and I know how excited they will be. That’s the main thing.”
The Aggies (8-2) figured they would get a playoff berth after beating Chico State 34-21 Saturday in winning a 19th straight Northern California Athletic Conference title.
