Some University of Arkansas athletes have been suspended from competition because they placed bets with bookies on college games, the university said.
Arkansas spokesman Jim Treadway would not give names of the athletes, nor would he say how many were involved. He said the university’s general counsel, Ginger Crisp, said disclosing such information would violate federal law.
Basketball player Cannon Whitby was ruled ineligible to play Thursday because his name appeared on several lists confiscated from a man charged with running a betting operation, Coach Nolan Richardson said.
