Ty Detmer passed for 358 yards and four touchdowns as No. 21 Brigham Young routed Utah, 70-31, Saturday in a Western Athletic Conference game at Provo, Utah.

The victory avenged a 57-28 loss to the Utes last season.

The Cougars, 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference, can clinch the WAC title and a berth in the Holiday Bowl with a victory at San Diego State next Saturday.

Detmer, who also ran seven yards for a score in the first quarter, threw all four touchdown passes in the first half as BYU scored on its first seven possessions en route to a 49-7 halftime lead.

Detmer, a sophomore, has 42 touchdown passes, including 29 this season.

The Utes (4-7 and 2-5) played without quarterback Scott Mitchell. Backup Mike Richmond threw for 393 yards and four touchdowns.

Wyoming 41, Texas El Paso 10--Dabby Dawson ran for 210 yards to eclipse the 1,000-yard barrier for the year in leading the Cowboys to a season-ending victory over the Miners in a WAC game at Laramie, Wyo.

Wyoming finished at 5-6 and 5-3; UTEP ended up 2-10 and 1-7.
