Pierce 21, Compton 20: Pierce struggled during most of its WSC game at Compton, but came out on top on Andrew Munoz’s 18-yard field goal with 57 seconds left. Brian Bassler recovered a fumble at Compton’s 30-yard line with 4:29 left, setting up Munoz’s kick.

“We didn’t play that well but got the job done when we had to,” Pierce Coach Bob Enger said.

Munoz’s field goal capped a furious rally that enabled the Brahmas (4-6, 3-6) to overcome a 20-10 deficit. Pierce stopped a Compton drive on a fourth-and-goal play at the Brahma three.

Pierce pulled within 20-16 on Pete Pistone’s diving grab of Jamie Grossman’s seven-yard pass. Gabe Jimenez’s conversion run made the score 20-18 with 4:52 left.

Grossman was 19 of 38 for 288 yards. Shannon Culver made seven receptions for 96 yards and Pistone added four catches for 57 yards.

Pierce’s David Walker recovered two fumbles.
