Bryant Sets Five Iowa State Records, Rushes for 208 Yards
Blaise Bryant ran for 208 yards and two touchdowns Saturday, setting five school records along the way, and Iowa State held off Oklahoma State, 31-21, in the teams’ Big Eight Conference final.
Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy completed 25 of 41 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns, becoming the first player in conference history to throw for more than 2,000 yards in three seasons. He rallied the Cowboys (4-7 overall, 3-4 in Big Eight) in the fourth quarter, pulling them within 24-21, but a late drive ended on downs at Iowa State’s 36 with 1:05 remaining.
Then Bryant, a transfer from Golden West College who had 33 carries, sealed the victory for Iowa State (6-5, 4-3) with a 1-yard touchdown run that came one play after he ran 62 yards on a delay.
Bryant finished the season with 1,516 yards rushing, surpassing the school record of 1,312 set by Dwayne Crutchfield in 1981. He also set school records with 19 touchdowns, seven 100-yard games, 120 points and 1,718 all-purpose yards.
