NBA ROUNDUP : Atlanta Falls Flat at Milwaukee, 118-100

Share

Consistency has never been one of the Atlanta Hawks’ strong points.

There are times when the Hawks appear to be unbeatable. On other occasions, they just don’t play very well. With Moses Malone now 34, the Hawks are vulnerable in back-to-back games.

After blowing out the Detroit Pistons at Auburn Hills, Mich., Tuesday night, the Hawks couldn’t keep up with the Bucks Wednesday night at Milwaukee.

Ricky Pierce scored eight points in a 22-6 second-half run that enabled the Bucks to romp past the Hawks, 118-100.

Although Malone--who made seven of his first eight shots to put the defending champion Pistons in a hole--had 21 points, he had only eight rebounds and really wasn’t much of a factor.

Dominique Wilkins suffered a cut over his eye late in the third quarter in a collision with Tony Brown and did not return to the game. With 4:16 left, Alvin Robertson, who starred for the Bucks, took a hard fall and left the game. Neither injury is believed to be serious.

Orlando 119, Utah 97--The Jazz, who had to go overtime to beat one expansion team at Minnesota Tuesday night, couldn’t handle the other at home.

Jerry Reynolds scored eight of his 22 points in a 25-9 run that enabled the Magic to pull away from a third-quarter tie and win easily.

The Magic are 3-3 on the road. They had help when Utah playmaker John Stockton couldn’t play because of an ankle injury.

Chicago 95, Phoenix 90--Michael Jordan recovered rapidly from the flu to score 34 points and the Bulls handed the Suns their first home loss after four victories.

Jordan had only 16 points Tuesday night when the Bulls lost their third game in a row on the road.

Boston 109, Houston 97--At home, the Celtics play like contenders. With Larry Bird scoring 26 points and Reggie Lewis 22, the Celtics romped to their sixth consecutive victory at Boston Garden. The Celtics are 1-5 on the road.

Cleveland 97, New York 85--With Mark Price sinking long-range shots, the Cavaliers might not miss Ron Harper.

Price made three three-pointers at Richfield, Ohio, and the Cavaliers improved to 5-0 since Price recovered from a sprained ankle.

Philadelphia 113, Miami 103--Charles Barkley, fined $5,000 by the league for “verbal abuse of an official” in a game with Orlando, took it out on the Heat at Miami.

Barkley scored 12 of his 20 points in the first 10 minutes to help the 76ers build a 39-22 lead and send them on their way to an easy victory.

Denver 96, Minnesota 93--A slimmer Walter Davis is making a comeback at 35 with the Nuggets.

Davis scored 29 points at Minneapolis, including two free throws with nine seconds remaining.

Golden State 133, Sacramento 109--At Oakland, rookie Tim Hardaway had 12 assists and Mitch Richmond came out of a scoring slump as the Warriors ended a six-game losing streak.
