BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Antelope Valley Overtakes Canyons in 2nd Half

Freshman center Danny Griffen scored 30 points off the bench, including 24 in the second half, to lead visiting Antelope Valley to a 108-93 nonconference win over College of the Canyons on Friday.
Reserve Tony Madison also scored 20 points as the Marauders rallied from a five-point intermission deficit. Antelope Valley (4-1) outscored Canyons, 11-4, in the first three minutes of the second half.
Aaron Clark scored 34 points for Canyons (0-3).
Valley 90, Citrus 78--Sophomore center Cliff Barnes scored a game-high 19 points and led all rebounders with 12 in pacing the Monarchs to the nonconference win at home.
Shawn DeLaittre and Steve Ward each added 18 for Valley (2-2), and Shelton Boykin had 14. All five Monarch starters finished in double figures.
Fred Mack came off to the bench to score 18 for Citrus (3-2). Dan Biagi and Bryant Carter each had 16.
Women
College of the Canyons 81, Fullerton 51--With two Fullerton starters out of the nonconference game because of disciplinary reasons, the second-ranked team in the state fell prey to Canyons’ ballhawking full-court press.
Canyons (4-1), in winning its home opener, equaled its win total of last season when it finished 4-19. Michelle Cabaldon and Tressie Millender led Canyons with 17 points each. Dawn Coleman grabbed 12 rebounds and Cabaldon added nine.
Angie Nelson led Fullerton (3-2) with 15 points.
