Chavez to Fight Gonzalez Tonight
Ernie Chavez of Westminster will seek his third main-event victory tonight in the monthly boxing program at the Irvine Marriott Hotel.
Chavez (7-0), a welterweight, takes on Carlos Gonzalez of San Diego. Gonzalez (11-5) is the third fighter scheduled to face Chavez.
Hedgemon Robertson was originally scheduled, but the boxer told promoter Don Fraser that he had to withdraw because of swollen eyes and a sinus problem caused by the Santa Ana wind conditions.
Sammy Ray Taylor replaced Robertson, but Taylor’s wife is ill and he withdrew Tuesday.
Chavez has defeated Daryl Colquitt and Bobby Chinungu at Irvine this year.
