Share

A suspected bank robber led Arcadia police on a high-speed chase along the 210 and 605 freeways before he slammed into another car 12 miles away in Covina and was arrested.

Police say Carlos Anthony Miranda, 27, held up a branch of Lincoln Savings & Loan Co. on Duarte Road in Arcadia about 11:45 a.m. Monday and fled with an estimated $3,000 in cash.

An officer spotted his sports car speeding away from the bank, but Miranda failed to stop when police signaled for him to pull over, Lt. Don Glenn said. With at least three patrol cars pursuing him, the suspect led officers on a chase that reached speeds of 115 m.p.h., Glenn said.

The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed into a car that was stopped at a red light near the corner of San Bernardino Road and Azusa Avenue. Both Miranda and the driver of the other car were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital, and Miranda was taken to the Arcadia Jail.

Police said they found the missing $3,000 in Miranda’s sports car.

Miranda, a mason from West Covina, is also suspected by the FBI of committing eight other bank robberies in the San Gabriel Valley, police said.
