Lee Trevino overcame a bogey-bogey start with a late rally for a three-under-par 69 on the Royal Kaanapali course in Hawaii Thursday in his first start on the Senior PGA Tour.

“The most fun I’ve had playing golf in seven years,” Trevino said after completing the first round of the Kaanapali tournament five strokes in back of surprise leader Joe Jimenez, who shot a 64.

Dale Douglass, who chipped in for an eagle in a bogey-free round, was second with a 66 in the 54-hole tournament. Defending champion Don Bies, Homero Blancas and Bob Boldt were next at 68.
