GIRLS’ PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Burt, Rohrig Share the Load in Mission Viejo’s Victory Over Los Amigos

Junior guard Carrie Burt scored 21 points and had 11 steals, leading Mission Viejo High School to a 63-36 victory over Los Amigos Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the championship round of the Savanna girls’ basketball tournament.

Senior center Jennifer Rohrig added 20 points, 19 rebounds and six blocked shots for Mission Viejo, which plays Loara at 6 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals.

In another Savanna tournament game:

Ocean View 71, Fullerton 50--Tracy Wolfe had 21 points and 14 rebounds and Jenny Sullivan scored 18 points for Ocean View (4-0), which next plays Redlands High School. Fullerton is 5-1.

Loara 56, Savanna 34--Jennifer Leonard scored 28 points and had 12 rebounds to lead the Saxons (2-3) in a second-round game at Savanna.

In the Brea-Olinda tournament:

Brea-Olinda 94, Saddleback 38--Jinelle Williams scored 24 points as the Wildcats rolled in the first round. Aimee McDaniel had 18 points and Tammy Blackburn 13 for Brea, which led, 56-19, at the half. Brea (5-0) plays Katella at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals.

Esperanza 52, South Torrance 28--Jennifer Harney scored 22 points to lead Esperanza in the first round. Kim Kordik added 10 points, five rebounds and five steals for Esperanza.

Fontana 64, Tustin 54--Kim Barnes scored 28 points to lead Fontana in a first-round game. Shari Needham had 14 and Wanda Sequeira scored 13 for the Tillers (5-2).

In the El Dorado tournament:

Pomona 70, Whittier Christian 31--Barbara Ablaza scored 19 points and Cindy Williams had 11 points for the Heralds.

Long Beach Jordan 46, Canyon 40 (2 OT)--Dayne Belvin scored 15 for Jordan. LaDona Van Horn had 10 for Canyon.

La Habra 54, La Serna 20--Leslie Ferguson scored 21 points and Ana Kristich had 17 to led host La Habra (2-0).

Dana Hills 70, Laguna Beach 13--Erin Schimeneck scored 28, Lizette Zamora and Deanna Ward each had 10 for Dana Hills (6-2).

Capistrano Valley 74, Westminster 22--Teresa Doesburg scored 19 points and had six assists and eight steals for host Capistrano Valley (4-2). Alisa Farr had 17 and Peggy Rivas added 10 for Capistrano Valley, which led, 42-11, at the half.

Cypress 47, Valencia 34--Hollie Keeton scored 18 for Valencia at Cypress.

San Clemente 43, Trabuco Hills 42--Karen Anderson made a free throw with eight seconds left to break a 42-42 tie for host San Clemente (4-2). Wendy Moon had 10 points and 11 rebounds for San Clemente. Trabcuo Hills is 0-4.

Sonora 54, Paramount 36--Casey Lozano scored 13 points and Kris Kiel had 10 for host Sonora (2-3), which made made 22 of 31 free throws.

Orange 70, Villa Park 48--Nichole Champion scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds and Alin Perez had 21 for the host Panthers (3-2). Villa Park (0-4) was outscored 21-10 in the third quarter.

University 57, Laguna Hills 26--Denise Gandara 27 points, and 13 rebounds for host University (4-2). She had 17 points and 10 rebounds in the first quarter. Tara Wolff scored 14 points for University.
