Cardinals Get Free Agent Tudor Back
Pitcher John Tudor, frequently disabled in recent seasons, signed a one-year contract Thursday for a guaranteed $450,000 with his former team, the St. Louis Cardinals.
The left-hander, disabled most of last season and 1987, became the third free-agent pitcher signed by the Cardinals in the past three weeks. The Cardinals signed Bryn Smith on Nov. 28 and Frank DiPino on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old left-hander was traded to the Dodgers for first baseman Pedro Guerrero in August of 1988.
Guerrero went on to lead the Cardinals in runs batted in last season and finished third in voting for the National League’s Most Valuable Player award. Tudor went on the disabled list with an elbow injury and missed nearly all of the season.
Tudor will receive $450,000 in salary and signing bonus for 1990, and could earn an additional $900,000 in performance bonuses. Last season, he was paid $1.1 million by the Dodgers.
