COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : DeLaveaga Hits 36 but CLU Falls

Jeff deLaveaga scored a game-high 36 points, but host Cal Lutheran lost its eighth consecutive game, dropping an 84-78 decision to Christ College in a National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics District 3 opener Friday night.

Cal Lutheran (0-8) outrebounded the Eagles, 51-33, but the Kingsmen made only 37.3% (31 of 83) of their shots from the field. Christ College hit 47% (30 for 64) of its shots.

DeLaveaga, a sophomore, was 14 of 32 from the field, including two three-point baskets, and six of eight from the free-throw line.

Mike Demeter added 17 points for the Kingsmen, who will play at Cal State Dominguez Hills tonight.

Keith Rogers had 20 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for Christ College.

WOMEN

Valley 67, MiraCosta 57--The Lady Monarchs (7-2) overcame a 38-29 halftime deficit to record their third consecutive win in a nonconference game at MiraCosta.

Valley guard Christine Rumfola led all scorers with 18 points, and teammate Sandrine Rocher had 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Forward Lisa Wolff led MiraCosta with 16 points.

Idaho State 75, Cal State Northridge 55--Joan Weinerth scored 15 points and Denna Mulverhill added 13 for CSUN, but the Lady Matadors could not stem their Division I opponent’s attack. Sherlyn Steele and Stacey Wanczyk each scored 10 points for ISU.

Cal Lutheran 69, La Verne 61--Brenda Lee had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Leslie Stevens had 10 points and 18 rebounds for Cal Lutheran in the nonconference game at home.

Dani Elton added 16 points on seven-of-14 shooting for the Regals (6-2).

Tricia Wright led La Verne with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
